TEAM RELEASE: Fall-Line Motorsports Scores 2 Top-10 Finishes at Lime Rock Park

May 26, 2014 0

Lakeville, CT (May 26, 2014) – This was the first time that Fall-Line Motorsports failed to finish on the podium in the 2014 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series as they raced at Lime Rock Park this past weekend. However, both BMW M3s competing in the GS category finished in the top-10 securing valuable points and extending their Championship lead with John Edwards and Trent Hindman, who finished 4th in yesterday’s race. Mike LaMarra and Terry Borcheller joined the team for the Lime Rock race, pulling double-duty as the raced in both the GS and ST races. They finished 9th in a successful result for the long-time racing pair.

Ashley Freiberg was on-hand to help out the team this weekend as she continues the hunt for sponsorship. She worked the signboard in the pits throughout the race and showed the team player that she is. Everyone is working extremely hard to make sure she is back behind the wheel of her Fall-Line BMW really soon.

The #46 car started on pole for the third consecutive race of 2014. Hindman captured the pole position in rounds 2 and 3 and Edwards inherited the pole at Lime Rock when qualifying was rained out. The grid was determined by points thus putting the #46 at the front once again. Edwards drove the opening stint of the 2.5-hour race and led every lap before pitting and passing off driving duties to Hindman. There was only one caution period in the entire race and this is when the #46 came to the pits from the lead. Unfortunately a miscommunication meant that the #46 pitted along with the 2nd placed car on the 2nd lap of this caution and this cost them track position. When everything shook out, Hindman joined the field in 7th when the race went green with just under one hour remaining. After a very strong drive and some great overtaking, Hindman made his way up to 4th place scoring the third fastest lap of the race. Hindman and Edwards maintain the Championship lead heading into Kansas Speedway.

#46 Trim-Tex/ Cirocco & Ozzimo/ Atlas Acon/ DFL Interiors/ Fall-Line Motorsports BMW driver quotes:

John Edwards: “Well, it was a good day for points since we finished ahead of the cars that are close to us, but I felt disappointed to not come away with our second win of the season. Our car was fast and Trent had a 17 second lead when the caution came out, but unfortunately we missed the call from IMSA that the pits were opening. Given that we were leading, there was no one ahead of us to follow into pit lane so we had to pit on the second lap that the pits were open, which cost us a lot of track position and ultimately our chance at winning. Trent drove a great stint to recover to P4 and keep our championship lead, and we’ll be ready to get back on the podium at Kansas.”

Trent Hindman:Overall I’m very pleased with how our race went. John had a great opening stint and it definitely showed that we had a shot at getting a good result. The Fall-Line guys gave us an awesome car, and it was especially good at the end when we were trying to hunt down the leaders. Definitely a little disappointed at just missing out on the podium, but in the end it was a great points day for us and we’re still carrying a lot of momentum going into Kansas. A huge thank you once again to our partners Trim-Tex, Cirocco & Ozzimo, Atlas Acon, DFL Interiors, and the National Kidney Foundation. Really excited to get back at it!”

Borcheller and LaMarra pulled double-duty as they competed in their usual BMW in the ST category and also in the GS category since the two classes had their own race at the compact Lime Rock Park circuit. LaMarra had to start at the back of the pack since they didn’t carry any points into this weekend that determined the starting grid. LaMarra started in P25 but moved his way up to P17 completing a very strong first stint in his very first GS event before Borcheller got in the car. Borcheller climbed up to P9 when the checkered-flag fell, scoring a solid finish for the pair’s first foray in the GS category together.

Mike LaMarra: We were happy to get a top 10 finish for the #48.  The Fall-Line team gave us a really good car.  We worked hard to overcome our starting position, but needed a few more positions early.  In the end, we were happy with the result and had a lot of fun driving with Fall-Line team and in the GS field.  We are thankful to the team for the opportunity.”

Terry Borcheller:Lime Rock is a tough place. Starting toward the back of the grid because of the qualifying being rained out made it even tougher. Mike, myself, and all involved at Fall-Line gave it everything we had. One of the objectives for Mike was to get some experience in a GS car, and he stepped up as he always does. It was a great experience to run with them again, and we wish them well with their pursuit of a GS Championship.”

Michael Harvey, Fall-Line Motorsports Team Manager: “I am so proud of the Fall-Line Motorsports team, as again they put two very fast and consistent BMWs on the track at Lime Rock Park this past weekend. We leave a little bittersweet as a slight error in communication under yellow forced Trent to work a little harder than planned and although a better result could possibly have been achieved it is great to head to Kansas having extended our points lead.”
