Lizard Lamborghinis Primed for Success at Watkins Glen International

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y., (June 22, 2022) – It has been one month since the Flying Lizard Motorsports Lamborghinis raced at NOLA Motorsports Park, and this weekend the cars roll out of the trucks and on track at Watkins Glen International for rounds five and six of the 2022 Super Trofeo North America championship. The series will race in support of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Six Hours of the Glen, bringing the Lizards back into the IMSA paddock for a weekend full of racing.
The team will return to the 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course with its trio of Huracán Super Trofeo Evo2 cars, driven by Brett Jacobson and Joel Miller (No. 11 Giddy in Pro/Am), Slade Stewart (No. 14 in LB Cup), and Tom Tait (No. 64 Emerald Center in Am). Supported by Lamborghini of Newport Beach, the three Lizard entries will take part in two practice, and two qualifying sessions before racing on Friday, June 24, and Saturday, June 25.
The Lizards previously took advantage of a private test day in early June to prepare for the event, allowing drivers to gain additional seat time at the circuit, while engineers were able to experiment with car setups and dial in on the best balance for each car in this weekend’s activities.
“I can’t wait to see our Super Trofeo cars racing at Watkins Glen,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “This is one of my favorite tracks and holds some great memories for me, having won the Six Hours of the Glen there. It’s a fun, fast track with a lot of grip. We have had a great season so far, and we hope to continue that success this weekend.”
Thirty-eight entries will compete in the event, running a pair of races for 50 minutes, each requiring one pit stop. Race one will begin on Friday, June 24 at 2:25 PM ET, followed by race two on Sunday, June 25 at 12:10 PM ET. Live scoring of all sessions will be available on scoring.imsa.com.
DRIVER QUOTES
Brett Jacobson (Pro/Am)
No. 11 Giddy Lamborghini Super Trofeo
Watkins Glen is one of my favorite tracks, so I cannot wait to try the Super Trofeo car there! Laguna was my first weekend ever in the car and at the track, so having both of those behind me will let me focus on simply driving this time. The Lamborghini is going to be really quick around this place!
Joel Miller (Pro/Am)
No. 11 Giddy Lamborghini Super Trofeo
I’ve been looking forward to Watkins Glen in Super Trofeo since the schedule came out since it is one of my favorite tracks! Along with that Brett had a great event here last month, and he enjoys driving the place. It races really well and we are excited to be back in the seat!
Slade Stewart (LB Cup)
No. 14 Lamborghini Super Trofeo
We are excited to head to the historic Watkins Glen after a strong showing in New Orleans. The grid is becoming more and more competitive, so we know we have our work cut out for us. We recently tested at Watkins and were encouraged by the car’s performance. As a driver, I know this is an incredibly difficult track that puts a tremendous amount of stress on the car and particularly the tires because of the G loads, and physical grip that is available. So, tire management throughout the duration of the race is going to be critically important.
Tom Tait (Am)
No. 64 Emerald Center Lamborghini Super Trofeo
We enjoyed a successful test at Watkins Glen earlier this month with our entire Flying Lizard Motorsports supported by Lamborghini of Newport Beach team. The performance of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo race cars on the iconic Watkins Glen circuit is mind-blowing, with very high G loads, tons of grip, and top speed around 170MPH. The IMSA Sahlen’s 6 Hours of the Glen is a huge weekend in US sportscar racing. We are looking forward to a very competitive, fun race weekend and hopefully a great finish for the Flying Lizard Motorsports supported by Lamborghini of Newport Beach team!
