Flying Lizard Motorsports Revisits Road America for Thrilling Race Weekend

ELKHART LAKE, Wis., (August 16, 2023) – Summer was just getting started when SRO America last had a race weekend with all of its affiliated series together at the same track. This weekend, everyone comes back together for an exciting weekend of racing in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin at the famed Road America road course. Flying Lizard Motorsports will bring its fleet of cars to the iconic course, ready to race in the GT America powered by AWS and the Pirelli GT4 America series.
The 4.048-mile road course is a favorite among competitors and fans, boasting 14 turns, high-speed straights, sweeping corners, and smooth elevation changes. The track will present the perfect backdrop to the next two rounds of the pair of championships, where Flying Lizard Motorsports and the team’s fleet of championships head into the final leg of the season, eagerly fighting for top championship honors.
“Road America is one of the top circuits in the US,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “It is a real drivers track, as it contains both high-speed and low-speed sections, heavy brake zones, and sectors that require precise placement of the car, so setup is very important here. You also need a car that generates a lot of top speed as the straights are very long here, we will see how things play out. With the new paving lap times will drop but it is also tricky offline, so qualifying is critical because passing will be harder than in previous years. We have had much success here in the past and are looking forward to this weekend.”

It has been over eight weeks since GT4 America last graced a racetrack. Elias Sabo and Andy Lee closed out Rounds Nine and Ten at VIRginia International Raceway with a pair of top-five finishes, still hungry for their first win of the season. Racing the No. 8 Aston Martin Vantage GT4, they started the race weekend off strong, earning a third-place finish in Round One. They’ve finished inside the top five for all but one of the races completed to date this season. They stand fourth in the Pro-Am class standings while Flying Lizard sits third in the team championship battle, just three points from the leaders.

The battle between Flying Lizard Motorsports and Chouest Povoledo Racing continues on, with the Lizards leading with six rounds to go. Flying Lizard will have three of the 26 entries competing in this weekend’s doubleheader. With Bell’s No. 2 Aston Martin Vantage GT4, Sabo’s No. 8 Aston Martin Vantage GT4, and Andy Wilzoch’s Porsche 911 GT3 R, the team has accrued 17 top-five finishes, 12 podiums, and three wins, eager to add to the team’s 11 championship titles.
