Flying Lizard Motorsports Leads Team and Driver Championships, Flies into SRO Season Finale

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., (September 4, 3023) – Flying Lizard Motorsports, the eleven-time sports car racing championship-winning team, is gearing up for an exhilarating showdown as they enter the final race weekend of the year in GT America and GT4 America. With an impressive track record and unmatched determination, the team currently finds itself once again leading both the team and driver championship point standings for both series. The anticipation is high as they prepare for the ultimate double-header event, set to unfold this weekend at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“This season has been a testament to the dedication and skill of our drivers and crew. We’ve worked very hard to reach this point, and we’re eager to close out this season with great finishes and hopefully a few championships as well,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a special place for our team as we won four championships here in 2020, and would like to accomplish that again this weekend.”

In Sebring International Raceway’s triple header last month, Flying Lizard Motorsports celebrated victories in GT4 America once with Elias Sabo and Andy Lee in the No. 8 Aston Martin Vantage, and again with Jason Bell and Michael Cooper, who also secured a second-place finish in the No. 2 Aston Martin Vantage. This success brought the team up from a 16-point deficit to finish out the weekend with a 10-point lead over Bimmerworld, and a 29-point lead over Chouest Povoledo Racing. In the driver standings, Sabo and Lee stand in third place, still mathematically in contention to finish second, a position which is currently held by NOLASPORT’s Jason Hart and Matt Travis. This weekend, full season drivers Sabo and Lee will again be joined by Bell and Cooper, and the team will also add the No. 13 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 pairing of Todd Parriott and Tom Dyer.

“We are very excited to have Todd Parriott and Tom Dyer joining us this weekend for the finale,” said Law. “Although Todd is fairly new to this series, he has shown some great potential in the races he entered earlier this year. It will be great to have Tom Dyer joining our program as well. He has a lot of experience and has always been fast in everything he drives.”

Parriott, with experience in the Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America this season, has also participated in two GT4 America races so far this season with co-driver Dyer, earning a top-five finish in the competitive series at Road America.

“The opportunity to work with Flying Lizard and be part of the winning formula at such a historical place like Indy is Amazing,” said Parriott.

The pair will join the No. 2 and No. 8 lineups as the third entry of the weekend, participating in the weekend’s pair of 60-minute races as the team fights for the championship titles.

“I’m looking forward to racing at the world-famous Brickyard and reuniting with Todd for this event,” said Dyer. “The opportunity to join Flying Lizard Motorsports is exciting. They are truly one of the iconic names in the sportscar racing world and I look forward to working with them for the first time. It’s going to be a busy weekend for us all and especially for Todd competing in two classes. I look forward to the challenge of GT4 racing in SRO during the season finale and seeing how we integrate. Bring on the weekend!”

Following Jason Bell’s first place and second place wins, followed by a third-place finish by Elias Sabo at Sebring International Raceway, Flying Lizard Motorsports holds a 76-point lead in the GT America GT4-class team standings over Chouest Povoledo Racing, unofficially making the team the champions headed into the weekend. In the driver standings, the title remains up for grabs as Bell holds a 35-point lead over Rob Holland and a 39-point lead over Ross Chouest. The three drivers have been neck and neck all year, and the final fight comes down to the final two races this weekend, where competitors will have a pair of 40-minute races to determine this year’s winners. Parriott and his No. 13 Aston Martin will also be competing in the GT America series, running in a total of four races over the weekend.

All races this weekend will stream live on YouTube.com/GTWorld and tickets for the weekend start at $20 and will be available at indianapolismotorspeedway.com.
