Flying Lizard Lamborghinis Take on Indianapolis Motor Speedway

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., (September 13, 2023) – The American leg of the 2023 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America championship comes to an end this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the season officially concludes in November in Italy. Having all graced the podium this season, the four Flying Lizard Motorsport machines will be ready to descend on the iconic venue to continue their quest to claim the championship titles.
“Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a great circuit to close out the US portion of our series,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “All of the drivers have run here and are comfortable at this track. We had an opportunity to test here not too long ago so we have some solid data. All four cars are running strong, and we are hopeful of our chances to not only finish in a podium position in the races but also stay in the fight for the championship.”
With four rounds in the North American championship remaining, the two Lizard entries of Chris Bellomo and Johannes van Overbeek in the No. 68 and Paul Nemschoff and Marc Miller in the No. 41 still stand in the hunt for the Pro/Am class championship. The driving duos are currently tied for fifth place in the point standings, with Nemschoff and Miller holding three podium finishes, while the No. 68 of Bellomo and van Overbeek lay claim to the team’s one win and two additional podium finishes to date.
The No. 64 of Tom Tait and the No. 14 pink unicorn Lamborghini of Slade Stewart and Andy Lee have had a strong momentum over the recent race events, with Tait picking up another fourth place finish while the unicorn squad reveled in the glory of their first podium of the season.
Rounds seven and eight of the 10-race championship will run on Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course, a 2.439 mile, 14-turn road course inside the iconic oval, utilizing the circuit’s front straight before the field dives into the infield section. All four of the Lizard cars came to an unofficial test session several weeks ago in preparation for the event, gaining knowledge of the handling of the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo2 with each lap.
The series will run in support of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, with a pair of 50-minute races. Race one will begin on Saturday, September 16 at 11:50 AM ET, and on Sunday, September 17, the Lamborghini will provide the pre-race show for the WeatherTech competitors, beginning at 11:40 AM ET. Both races will air live in their entirety on imsa.com/tvlive.
