Flying Lizard Motorsports took pole position for the second straight race in row during today’s 15-minute GT Daytona qualifying session, with Spencer Pumpelly setting a 1:32.914 lap time around the 2.35 mile temporary street circuit on Belle Isle. Nelson Canache Jr. will start the No. 45 Venezuela / eSilicon Audi R8 LMS from the front spot of the GTD grid for tomorrow’s 1 hour and 40 minute TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race. Dion von Moltke was stranded in bad traffic throughout the qualifying session, struggling to get any clear laps, so Seth Neiman will start the No. 35 PR Newswire / UBM Tech / eSilicon Audi R8 LMS from 14th in class. Tomorrow’s race start will come at 12:10pm ET and live timing and scoring for the race can be found at www.imsa.com and on the IMSA mobile app. In the United States, the race will be televised starting at 1:30pm ET on Saturday, May 31st on Fox Sports 1 and also available on the Fox Sports Go mobile app. Outside of the United States, the full race broadcast will be available at www.imsa.com.
Spencer Pumpelly, No. 45 Audi R8 LMS:
“We had a wild qualifying session. The car was great in practice so we had high hopes of taking the pole but the other teams were able to really close the gap. We went back and forth with some other cars from a few different manufacturers for the top spot through the entire 15-minute session and the radio chatter was non-stop with all the position changes. The tires were at their best late in the session though and just before the end we were able to slip into the top spot. It was a great effort from everyone on the team.”
